Blogging is an excellent way to expand your business and build a following. It is an easy communicating platform that can be used to enrich, inform, influence and inspire a target group of readers. Even though effective blogging will always involves interaction with the readers through their valued comments, here are some more ways to increase your effectiveness as well.

Know your goal: First and foremost, you need to decide what you want to accomplish with your blog. Both short-term and long-term goals for the blog entirely depend on the reason which started writing blogs and your target audience. You have to know enough about your audience to know what matters most to them in order to appeal to their interests and concerns on a consistent basis.  Thereafter, design and write your blog posts accordingly, and achieve your goals. Are you trying to endorse your business through the blogs or simply share your thoughts and opinions with others?

Position yourself as an expert: In general, blogging is about having conversations in a public space that position you as a subject matter expert. As such, the type of articles that you should post ought to be aimed at addressing concerns that your target audience is searching for. For instance, if you have helped solve a problem for a particular product or group, post about your success in that area. Share stories of how your service has helped your clients or about upcoming workshops where you will be a featured speaker. Public speaking is an excellent way to showcase your expertise.

Get your name in print: It’s the strangest thing…but as soon as someone sees your name in print, your ‘expert’ status automatically jumps up several notches. Publish your articles on your own web site. And make it known that other site editors can reprint your articles on their own sites and in their newsletters. Get the word out through an industry blog and by participating in discussion groups.  And, of course, every online article should include a short bio and link back to your own site.

Choose a platform: A platform is any website where you can post your blog. This can be your own page or an outside website like or WordPress.com or Trulia.com. It is great to blog on your own website, but don‘t stop there. Blog on other sites that get more traffic than your own. By building name recognition at an already popular site, you can begin to drive more traffic to your own website. In fact, one of the fastest ways to get the word out is to get your name in print on a regular basis. In other words, write articles that show up in publications that your target audience reads.

Be informative: Your articles must be informative and educational. Do more than merely ask for business. Provide helpful information that bestows value in ways that your target audience understands. Telling a story about your company and your reasons for being in the business you’re in makes you real to them. It also provides value-added services that can forge stronger ties between you and your customers. Providing “How-to” and other insightful information related to the product or service establishes you as a helpful partner.

Spread the word: When you publish a post, make sure that you spread the word by posting a link to the article on your Facebook and Twitter accounts. You should also e-mail the link out to your database. This will increase traffic to the post.

Use search-engine keywords: Keywords are the words someone types into a search engine when researching a topic. These keywords should lead readers to your blog. Make sure that your article and the article’s title include relevant keywords.

Create a standard signature: A signature line at the end of each post is a great place to advertise yourself. When someone reads your blog post, you want it to be easy for them to find out more information about you. The signature line should include our name, email address, phone number, links to your website, and buttons that link your Facebook or Twitter pages.

Commit: Your blog is an extension of your brand. Your blogs should communicate a particular message and image that represent your brand. The design and the content of the blog should reflect your brand message and image. If you are consistent with your blogs, you are more likely to meet your readers’ expectations and also make a safe place for them to revisit your website and read your blogs. You have to be patient.
